The
NanoArrays biochip technology will provide a very sensitive, high throughput,
rapid and accurate detection system for detection of metals in water. The NanoArray biochip is constructed as a
small plate, coated with a functionalised polymer film. The film will
selectively bind to target molecules that indicate the presence of heavy metals
in water samples.
The NanoArrays
are fabricated via chemical immobilisation of a specific library of chemical
compounds in the form of diagnostic nanobeads onto microstructured
pillars. This unique method of manufacture allows for a high signal:noise
ratio to be achieved, with no sample
preparation required. This, is turn,
leads to high sample throughput, thus resulting in a low cost diagnostic
system.
