Envisage NanoSystems (Envisage NS) has been established by Nanotechnology Victoria Ltd for a range of projects involving applications of nanotechnology to water. Its purpose is to improve methods and instrumentation for the testing and reuse of water.
Envisage NS has two broad activities:
- Nanotechnology based solutions for laboratory and on-site analysis of contaminants in water
- Nanotechnology based solutions for treatment of contaminated water
The competitive advantages that these projects offer over current technologies include:
- Ability to conduct either laboratory or on-site analysis of water with ultra-high sensitivities, enabling the detection of trace amounts of pollutants
- Improved ability to economically reduce toxins such as arsenic from water
- Enabling industry to recycle water using nanofiltration techniques
- Making industrial waste water suitable for irrigation by improving caustic recovery
